I teach specialist glass courses and am establishing a teaching space in my own studio. Classes will range from taster sessions introducing basic glass techniques to specialist casting projects. Group sizes will be small and guest teachers will also feature. More information will be here soon once the building work is completed. If you would like to be informed of future classes and events please email me and I will add you to my mail out: home@angelathwaites.com
Angela has taught masterclasses at Pilchuck Glass School, USA, Bildwerk, Germany, The Glass Furnace, Turkey and Stipglass, The Netherlands as well as colleges and Universities in the UK.
Teaching at Pilchuck is an amazing experience. Both times I have co-taught classes there it has been an intense and super productive time for everyone involved. We combined experimental digital and physical processes with glass to produce 'New Footprints in Glass' (2018).
The landscape and coastline of the most Northern parts of the East coast of Scotland around Northlands are not like anywhere else I've seen and inspires artistic responses of a different kind from everyone who goes there to make glass.
When I taught at the Glass Furnace students came from India, Japan, Canada and the USA and all over Europe. It was a melting pot in every sense ? hot, hot Summer temperatures, hot glass, kilns and lamp working and hugely diverse approaches to making glass.
Max and I have worked, exhibited and taught together numerous times over decades. Although we are quite different our approaches overlap and this leads to a very enjoyable time teaching together where everyone gets a lot out of it and a whole lot of making goes on.
